Volunteer Opportunities

A large part of applying to the UOTeach program is demonstrating your familiarity with the age group that interests you. This kind of work can occur in many different settings. While we do not specifically recommend any amount of time or any kind of environment, we do prefer to see experience with groups of children rather than one-on-one work.

Eugene 4J School District Volunteer Opportunities
AVID Tutoring
  • Requires a training session, usually offered early fall and spring

UO STEM CORE! Math & Science Tutoring
  • Tutor High School students in Math and/or Science 2-4 days a week
    (2-10 hours total/wk on average) during Fall, Winter and Spring.
  • $15.00 per hour tutoring position with Springfield High School

SMART–Start Making a Reader Today
  • Help elementary kids become confident readers by providing individual volunteer attention and new, take-home books
  • SMART school coordinator provides coaching and scheduling 
BEST After School Program–Get Smart Oregon
  • Serves underserved youth, boosts academic achievement in reading and math, and provides enrichment opportunities.
  • Currently offered at Howard, River Road, & Chavez Elementary Schools; K–8 Arts & Technology Academy, and Kelly Middle School
South Eugene High School Tutoring Center
Charlemagne Elementary, French Immersion School

Creswell Clubhouse

  • Spend 2 to 3 afternoons per week (ie. M/W/F or T/TH) sharing your talents. Gain practical educational work experience. $10/ hr work study, creswellclubhouse@gmail.com
