Program Prerequisites

All applicants to the Family and Human Services major must complete 50-55 credits by the time of application with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate satisfactory progress toward completion of general university requirements. It is desirable for applicants to have completed as many of the three Pre-Major courses (FHS 213/FHS 215/ FHS 216) as possible. These courses must be graded, and applicants must have passed with a C- or better.

Applicants must have evidence of volunteer or paid work with children, youth, adults, and/or families. At least 60 hours is desirable.

Applicants accepted into the FHS major must complete a FBI criminal background check, and will be subject to a UO Conduct Check.

Admission to the FHS major is a separate process from admission to the University of Oregon. The UO Office of Admissions provides information on university admission deadlines and procedures. Their telephone numbers are: 541-346-3201 or 800-BE-A-DUCK. Students are admitted to the College of Education Family and Human Services undergraduate major on a competitive basis. The major has restricted enrollment; therefore, not all students who meet the minimum requirements are admitted. Transfer students should speak with academic advisor Randy Martin at 541-346-1583 or Christi Boyter at 541-346-2476 about the transfer process.
