Biography

Abby Lane is a senior instructor with the UOTeach Licensure Program. At the inception of the UOTeach licensure program in 2008, she joined the UOTeach faculty.  She teaches courses in sheltered-instruction and English language development.  Abby has worked in the fields of English language development and bilingual education in California and Oregon for over 30 years.  She began working as an adjunct instructor at UO in 1992 while continuing to teach in Eugene School District 4J as a Spanish immersion and English language development teacher. She later served as Coordinator for 4J’s English Language Development Program until her retirement from the school district in 2016.

Research

Her research interests include effective instruction for Emerging Bilinguals, and developing appropriate evaluation procedures for Emerging Bilingual to determine if a student’s academic difficulties are due to a language difference or true learning disability.
