Postbaccalaureate Advisor, Lecturer
5284 University of Oregon
Eugene, OR 97403-5284
Post-baccalaureate status allows a student to begin coursework in the program without the extensive admissions procedure required for graduate school. The advantage of this status is that students are eligible to enter the program and complete many of the prerequisites necessary for graduate school and certification, regardless of prior undergraduate degree. Completion of CDS prerequisites prepares a student for a speech pathology master's program and generally makes a student more appealing to graduate program admissions committees across the country. Most students complete post-baccalaureate courses in three terms as a full-time student. Depending on previous coursework, students may need to take coursework outside the CDS major to complete the prerequisites necessary for graduate school or certification. There is no guarantee that, upon completion of coursework, a student will be admitted to this CDS master's program. However, completion of this program may result in admission to this or some other Communication Disorders and Sciences master's program.
Application, Deadlines, and Admission
Students should apply for undergraduate postbaccalaureate status through the UO admissions department (http://admissions.uoregon.edu/otherapplicants/postbacc). No separate CDS program application is required. All applications are managed by the UO admissions department and approved by the CDS program (in early June and early August). Applicants are required to submit an application, a 1-page Statement of Purpose summarizing your background and interest in speech-language pathology, and all undergraduate transcripts.
Postbaccalaureate courses are designed to be taken in a sequence (beginning Fall term) and are offered only once an academic school year. Therefore students should start their PB program Fall term. Applications for Fall term admission are due no later than July 31st. Applications for the upcoming fall are accepted any time before July 31st but are only reviewed by the department in early June and early August.
The CDS program prefers to advise all potential and currently admitted postbaccalaureate students. Please do not seek advising about our program through general UO advising. Questions about the postbac program can be answered by Heather Moore at firstname.lastname@example.org or 541-346-4996.
