Teacher Appreciation Week

It's Teacher Appreciation Week, and we are excited to highlight our incredible alumni who are making a difference as educators. 


Scholarships create stability, open doors, and make it possible for students to imagine futures that once felt out of reach. For alum Lilly Gaven, BS ’23 Educational Foundations, MEd ’24 Curriculum and Teaching, scholarship support was the foundation that allowed her to transform her education into a career that now touches the lives of hundreds of children.
Yvonne Fasold, a three‑time UO graduate in English, Interdisciplinary English and Education, and Curriculum and Instruction (’67, ’69, ’92), built a 40‑year career as a creative, student‑centered educator before retiring and continuing her service as an active community volunteer. A College of Education donor for over twenty years, Yvonne has helped future teachers prepare to meet the diverse learning needs of students through scholarship support.
Meet alumni Alex Walker, a 2020 graduate of the University of Oregon’s UOTeach master's program and current fifth grade teacher at Malabon Elementary. Alex also serves as Head Coach for Track and Field and Assistant Coach for Boys’ Soccer at Willamette High School.
Meet Elementary and Special Education alumna Kate Barker, BS and MS, a veteran principal, professor, author, speaker, and leadership coach. Learn more about her decades‑long career in education and what she experienced in her professional journey that affirmed not only her path but her purpose.
Springfield Public Schools special education teacher Sally Golden was named and celebrated as Oregon’s 2025-26 Teacher of the Year. Sally, a double-duck with a degree in Educational Studies, '99 and in Middle-Secondary Special Education, '00, has been a special education teacher in the Springfield Public Schools district for 20 years.
Alumni Spotlight Series: Meet Erika Sauder, '11, a California school principal who earned her bachelor’s in the Educational Foundations program and later completed her master’s in 2011 through the UOTeach program.
