Empowering Scholars to Transform Education

Learn how a COE scholarship is helping Havisha (Havi) Khurana, a Quantitative Research Methods in Education doctoral student, make significant strides in her academic and professional journey.

Progress in education is fueled not only by individual scholars, but by scholarships that provide scholars with the resources and confidence to pursue their bold ideas. For Havisha (Havi) Khurana, a fifth-year PhD student in the College of Education’s Quantitative Research Methods in Education program at the University of Oregon, that support came through the Lorraine Moe Davis Scholarship.

Havi’s research focuses on special education policy related to access, finance, discipline, and long-term student outcomes in the United States and India. Her goal is to ensure that educational systems serve all learners equitably. “Service has always been the driving force behind my actions,” Havi shared. “As a former educator in a low-income community and now focusing on special education, this scholarship is especially meaningful because of its emphasis on service to others.”

The Lorraine Moe Davis Scholarship honors leadership and commitment to education. It was established by Dr. Lorraine Davis, an accomplished administrator who served the University of Oregon for forty-four years in roles including vice president for academic affairs, athletics director, special assistant to the president, and provost. Before her administrative career began in 1990, Lorraine earned her PhD in health education and served as a faculty member for twenty years. Her legacy reflects a lifetime of service to students and the university community.

For Havi, receiving this award has been transformative, “Your generosity has given me the freedom to focus on my studies and research without constant worry about finances. I plan to use the scholarship to fund conference travel, invest in professional development, and upgrade my device to better support my academic work. It means so much to know that someone values the work I am doing and the difference I hope to make in education.”
