"What really set the program apart was the support from professors—they go above and beyond to help, tailoring their guidance based on your needs and strength." – Cj Still

CJ (he/him) currently works as a Behavioral Specialist in the Mood Disorder Program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, supporting children who are facing significant emotional and behavioral challenges. Through clinical assessments and evidence-based treatments like CBT and DBT, he helps create meaningful progress in their lives.

The ABA program's combination of challenging coursework and practicum experience, as well as the constant support from his professors has given him the knowledge and skills to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Following graduation, CJ is preparing for the BCBA exam and plans to serve in inner-city schools where access to services is limited.

Tell us more about your work at the  Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where you support individuals with acute emotional behavioral challenges.

I currently work as a Behavioral Specialist in the mood disorder program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I support children facing significant emotional and behavioral difficulties. My role involves conducting clinical assessments, implementing evidence-based treatments like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). We advocate for services that support the emotional well-being of our patients. If you know of any children or families in need of support, please don’t hesitate to send them our way—we're here to help.

How did the ABA program prepare you for your career?

The ABA program at the University of Oregon gave me the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become the best future Board Certified Behavior Analyst I can be. The coursework and practicum experiences prepared me to assess behavior through a scientific lens and create real, lasting change for individuals. What really set the program apart was the support from professors—they go above and beyond to help, tailoring their guidance based on your needs and strengths. The values they instilled in me will stay with me throughout my career.

What are your plans following graduation?

Right after graduation, I plan to begin prepping for the BCBA exam. After passing, I hope to work in an inner-city school setting—especially in communities that may not have access to a local BCBA. My goal is to be a positive presence and help shape the future for kids who deserve every opportunity to thrive.

What advice would you give incoming/current students?

Embrace every challenge and be open with your professors. Let them know what works for you and where you’re struggling—they’ll adjust their approach to help you succeed. This program is built for growth, so the more honest and proactive you are, the more you’ll get out of it.
