​​​​Emma Bjorngard Basayne, Advising Center Operations Director, Academic Advisor

Emma Bjorngard Basayne (she/her/hers) is the Advising Center Operations Director, and an Academic Advisor in the College of Education (COE) at the University of Oregon. She provides advising to all COE students, but has a focus on students enrolled in or pursuing the Family and Human Services program.

Emma received her undergraduate degree in Philosophy from California State University Long Beach, and her MA and PhD in Philosophy from the University of Connecticut. Emma also earned a MS in Counselor Education with a Specialization in Student Development in Higher Education from Central Connecticut State University. As an Academic Advisor Emma takes a personal interest in the students whom she works with and empowers them to develop their unique talents and perspectives as they relate to their academic, personal, and professional goals.

Emma is Saami (the indigenous people from a land region stretching over parts of Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Russia), and she was born and raised in Sweden. She loves travelling and tries to go back to Europe to see her family as often as she can. When she is not on campus, she enjoys spending time in the outdoors, reading books, and cuddling with her fluffy cat Jasper.

Mariah Deguzman (she/her) is an Academic Advisor in the College of Education (COE) at the University of Oregon. She provides holistic advising to undergraduate COE students to help them reach personal, academic, and professional success.  

As a first generation student, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of California, Merced and received her Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University. While at Bowling Green State University, she worked with the living learning community for students with a passion for art. After graduating with her masters, she spent 9 months working as an admissions representative for the University of California, Santa Cruz.  Prior to working at the University of Oregon, Mariah worked with Arizona State University in Residential Life working with students to help them find success in whatever way was meaningful to the student.    

Mariah was raised in the Greater Los Angeles, California area. Outside of work, Mariah enjoys spending time with her long-term partner, reading books, and watching cooking shows. 

Angela Dornbusch, Academic Advisor

Angela Dornbusch (she/her) is an Academic Advisor in the College of Education (COE) at the University of Oregon, where she provides holistic academic advising support to undergraduate COE students as they navigate their new communities and prepare for academic, professional, and personal success.

Angela received her undergraduate degree in English and Speech/Communications from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and her MA degree in English (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Graduate Certificates in the Teaching of Post-Secondary Reading and the Teaching of Composition from San Francisco State University. She has lived and worked in England, Australia, New Zealand, the Kingdom of Tonga, and Taiwan, and has served as an instructor and advisor in institutes of higher education throughout the U.S. including having served as the Head Academic Advisor and Senior Instructor with UO’s American English Institute and the IECP Coordinator of Student Affairs at Pennsylvania State University.

Angela has also served as a representative on numerous UO committees, including the Study Abroad Program Committee and the Student-Faculty Committee on Grievances, and holds leadership roles with international professional organizations. In addition, she has extensive experience delivering formal presentations throughout the U.S. on topics related to proactive academic advising approaches, first-year student support programs, and academic success and retention of at-risk student populations.

Angela enjoys taking long walks with her dog through the south hills of Eugene, watching classic movies with her teenage son, and attending cultural and artistic events throughout the state of Oregon with her family. She also loves the theater and volunteers as an Arts Ambassador with the Hult Center for the Performing Arts.

Greg Brock (he/him/his) is an Academic Advisor in the College of Education (COE) at the University of Oregon, where he provides holistic advising to undergraduate COE students to help them reach personal, academic, and professional success.

Greg earned his MA in Counseling and has over 20 years’ experience working in higher education. All his higher education experience has been in helping students find success through Student Life and teaching. Navigating education as a first-generation student has been deeply formative to his passion and dedication to equipping students for academic, professional, and holistic success. He considers it an honor to serve as an Academic Advisor and to help students find the resources they need to thrive in in this critical phase of personal development.

As an Oregonian, Greg has been a Portland Trail Blazer fan for as long as he can remember and enjoys talking NBA basketball with anyone willing to listen. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids. When there is free time, you can often find him reading, exploring national parks, road trips, camping, or at the beach.
