Why did you choose UO and/or your program or major?

I chose UO because of the unique experiences offered in the specialty clinics as well as the simulation labs, which both give more hands-on training. Another big reason was the full-time externships that started after classes were complete.

What is your most memorable experience at the College of Education?

My most memorable experience at the College of Education were the study sessions with my classmates in the Learning Commons. We would spend hours in the large study rooms utilizing the many resources provided (like dual monitors, whiteboards) to the fullest extent. Thanks to the great student employees and staff we were able to get a lot of work done. The Learning Commons started to know me by name because I was in there so often during my time on campus!

What are your plans after graduation?

My family and I plan to stay in Eugene, OR for the near future before determining where our forever home will be. However, in the meantime, I plan to work with the birth to 5 population and support families with children with communication and feeding/swallowing impairments.

What impact do you hope to make in your future career?

I hope to inspire other underrepresented populations to enter the field of Speech Language Pathology because WE BELONG in this field. I also hope to educate families and professionals on speech and language development of bilingual children.

Do you have any advice for prospective students?

You can do it, despite the obstacles that you encounter along your educational journey. Don’t give up on yourself, you got this, tu puedes, no te dudes! Just remember to breathe and tell yourself “I can do this!” Solo Respira!
