Professor Viegas has an extensive background in Juvenile and Adult Justice systems. He has served as a Juvenile Court Counselor, an Adult Corrections Counselor and as a Protective Service Supervisor. He conducted Juvenile Justice courses over a period of 30 years. He has written many articles for professional organizations and has served on a variety of Advisory groups including two Governor's Task Forces. Currently Viegas is engaged in developing an analysis of Oregon Juvenile Services over time. He directed a master's degree program in corrections at the University of Oregon. He is presently acting as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Abused Children. He is also a member of Lane County Public Safety Coordinating Council.
