Angel Dorantes is the Undergraduate Advising and Retention Coordinator for the Educational Foundations program. As academic advisor, Angel works with students from their first-year to graduation. He has worked in higher education in various roles including outreach and recruitment initiatives, diversity and multicultural programs, student life and campus activities, and academic support services.

"I am very excited to work with students in the Educational Foundations program in their academic planning. I look forward to working with students, faculty, and staff in developing a supportive, innovative, and exciting teaching and learning environment".

As a doctoral student, my research interests include issues of access and equity in education, parental engagement in the educational system, and the experiences of children/adolescents who translate/interpret for their parents. I study these issues in the context of the experiences of the growing and diverse Latina/o communities. My dissertation explores the experiences of Latina/o high school students who translate for their parents and their perceptions regarding benefits and concerns and issues of acculturation and intergenerational perspectives.

As an avid cyclist, an enthusiastic motorcyclist, and an ardent hiker/backpacker, I cherish living in Oregon and in the Pacific Northwest.

Angel co-authored a journal article, titled Reforzando las Redes: Supporting Latina/o Undergraduates at a State Flagship University, that was published in the Journal of Hispanic Higher Education.
