Courts for Kids

We have partnered with Courts for Kids, a Vancouver, WA based organization, to provide international service-learning experiences for students.  The trips are open to students from all majors and all years.

A sports court is a great project because it requires the help of many community members, provides plenty of work for everyone, and becomes an asset that provides not only safe places for children to play, but also various other benefits. The hard work of our team will be a great bridge between us and the community and we will develop a mutual respect that will help provide inroads into a rich cross-cultural experience and first-hand insight into a developing world community. Click here for more information about Courts for Kids.

In preparation for the trip, students are required to participate with their traveling companions in a two-credit service-learning seminar, "Global Citizenship." Course topics include the social and political history and current state of affairs at our destination, as well as a careful examination of participants' motivations and assumptions in taking on an international "service project." (Plus some helpful logistical travel advice.) CRN 22419; Instructor Approval Required (after application process)
