Job Title: First Grade Teacher - Kapaa Elementary School

1. Why did you choose the UO College of Education for your graduate studies?

UO was close to Corvallis, where I was living at the time. My educational mentor from the Siletz Tribe, Sonya Moody-Jurado encouraged me to apply to UO when I told her about my aspirations to teach. I'm really glad I listened to her!

2. Tell us about why the Sapsik'ʷałá Program is important, from your perspective?

This program allowed me to pursue my dream to be a teacher. Without the support I would not have been able to get my masters.

3. What advice do you have for future American Indian/Alaska Native educators?

Teaching must always come from your heart. More than anything, the world needs compassionate, kind educators. You have the power to enrich lives, including your own.
