Adopting Textbooks

Adopting Textbooks

All faculty and instructors are responsible for adopting (ordering) the textbooks needed for their classes. Orders should be placed well before the term begins. If adoption requests are placed 30 days or less in advance of the upcoming term, please be aware that the materials may not be available before the start of classes.  The ordering process for custom and import titles takes considerably longer than the average book order, so please take this into consideration.

Instructor Copies/Desk Copies

The only way to obtain desk copies of textbooks is through a publisher representative or the publisher directly. The publishers will only provide a copy if the bookstore orders your books directly from the publisher. After receiving notice that your adoption has been posted, you may email Alysen Kaser ( to inquire if your books were ordered from the publisher. If they were, please go to the publisher’s website to request a free instructor’s copy.

GTF’s and Adjuncts: If you are unable to obtain a complimentary copy of your textbook, please let Keri Baker or Alison Schmitke know.  The department may be able to provide assistance with desk copy purchase if no publisher provided copy is possible.
