Getting ready for Common Core

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are not entirely new. Educational standards have been molded, debated, rethought and rolled out for the past two decades. The controversy around CCSS isn't new either, as anyone who paid attention to No Child Left Behind knows. We've had standards pretty much since we realized that American students were falling behind other developed nations, so improving our status, along with preparing students for college and careers, is CCSS' ostensible purpose. Grammy nominees Nortec Collective to screen documentary, perform in Eugene

Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible, a Grammy-nominated musical group from Tijuana, Mexico, will be in Eugene Nov. 22-23 to perform with the full band set and to screen their documentary film Tijuana: Sonidos del Nortec. The group’s first visit to the Pacific Northwest is being sponsored by the Department of Education Studies and numerous other organizations at the University of Oregon (UO), along with the League of United Latin American Citizens.
