The UO College of Education offers Initial and Continuing Licenses with endorsements in special education, either the add-on (level I) endorsement or the stand-alone (level II) endorsement. The Early Intervention Special Education (EI) endorsement program prepares professionals to work with children from birth through age eight who have disabilities ranging from mild to severe. The program can be completed as a 22-credit add-on endorsement (EI) to an elementary or special education license or as a stand-alone endorsement (EI II).
Admission Requirements:
Applicants must meet general university requirements for graduate admission including a bachelor's degree and 3.00 grade point average (GPA). In addition, applicants must submit a formal department application including a statement of professional goals and experience, resume, letters of recommendation, transcripts, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores or Miller Analogies Test.Applicants must also submit passing scores for the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) or PRAXIS I/PPST and have experience working with special populations.
Licensing Process:
Upon completion of program requirements, graduates of the Early Intervention Program are eligible to apply to Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) for their initial teaching license or for an add-on endorsement with authorization for the early childhood or elementary levels.Continuing Teaching License: Special educators holding Initial Teaching Licenses are required by law to complete TSPC requirements for continuing licensure within six years of being awarded an Initial Teaching License in an approved teacher preparation program. The fulfillment of these requirements leads to recommendation for the Continuing Teaching License.
