Prepare for the
Special Educator Middle/High School License
in Special Education
This licensure-endorsement program prepares teachers to work with the full range of disabilities in middle and high school settings. Students may pursue initial licensure in special education, add-on endorsement, or combine endorsement studies with master's programs in other areas. Students in the program take several courses with other university students who are preparing to be general secondary education teachers.

The program emphasizes a broad-based approach to helping youth with disabilities succeed in middle and high school settings and to be better prepared for the transition from school to work opportunities and post-secondary education.

Admission Requirements:
Applicants must meet general university requirements for graduate admission including a bachelor's degree and 3.00 grade point average (GPA). In addition, applicants must submit a formal department application including a statement of professional goals and experience, resume, letters of recommendation, transcripts, test results from Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores or Miller Analogies Test (MAT).

Applicants must also submit passing scores for the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) or PRAXIS I/PPST and have experience working with special populations.

Licensing Process:
Upon completion of program requirements, graduates of the Special Educator-Middle/High School program are eligible to apply to Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) for their initial teaching license or for an add-on endorsement with authorization for the middle or high school levels.

Continuing Teaching License: Special educators holding Initial Teaching Licenses are required by law to complete TSPC requirements for continuing licensure within six years of being awarded an Initial Teaching License in an approved teacher preparation program. The fulfillment of these requirements leads to recommendation for the Continuing Teaching License.
