Over the past decade, a strong research base has evolved on accountability and data-driven decision making in education in general and beginning reading in particular.

The Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL) research and outreach activities support accountability and data-driven decision making in literacy achievement with systemic programs at federal, state, and district levels in
• Research based beginning reading instruction
• Architecture and delivery mechanisms of curriculum programs
• Content and intensity of professional development efforts
• Technical adequacy of assessment of students’ reading and academic achievement
