MFT becomes Couples and Family Therapy
The Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs has announced the following name change: The Marriage and Family Therapy master's program in the College of Education's Department of Counseling Psychology and Human Services is approved as Couples and Family Therapy, effective November 1, 2007.

"The Family Therapy faculty prefer the title 'Couples and Family Therapy' because this language is more inclusive and is a more accurate reflection of our work," says Jeff Todahl, program director and interim department head for Counseling Psychology and Human Services.

Program faculty and students operate the Center for Family Therapy, a university-based training clinic that provides over 4,000 therapy sessions annually to members of the Eugene-Springfield community. The center serves couples who identify as married, common law, domestic partners, or in partnership with a significant other.

"We want our title to be inviting to many couple-types and believe 'couples' captures this objective more effectively than 'marriage'," says Todahl.
