PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
In partnership with the Bend La Pine School District, the University of Oregon offers M.Ed. and initial administrator licensure programs in Bend. The UO IAL/M.Ed.program is dedicated to preparing school administrators to lead and manage schools that maximize learning for all students.
Master's Degree, Licensure/Endorsement Preparation
The twelve-month cohort licensure program and the two-year M.Ed./IAL program both prepare licensed teachers in Central Oregon for the Oregon initial administrator license, issued by Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. The program is standards-driven, and features collaborative teaching between university faculty and practitioners, which fosters mentor-relationships with practitioners.

Offered in five units of study, the administrator licensure component integrates theory with practice in each unit. Assessment is performance-based, and program preparation includes a focus on emerging technologies.

To pursue initial administrator licensure without the M.Ed., program credit hours total 26, which include 360 hours of administrative experience to fulfill practicum requirements.

Licensed teachers have the opportunity to earn a master's degree concurrently with the initial administrator's license. All 26 IAL credits apply towards the master of education (M.Ed.) degree. Course requirements for a combined program of study include practicum credit hours of actual administrative experience, for a total of 51 credit hours for the M.Ed. earned over nine terms.
