College Climbs to Fifth in Nation According to U.S. News & World Report's annual survey of top graduate schools, the University of Oregon College of Education ranks number five of all education programs in the nation for 2008–9. UO College of Education faculty again leads the nation's education researchers in productivity as measured by research awards per tenured faculty member, topping all 50 ranked graduate schools of education in the country. The college's special education program is ranked third in the nation for the ninth consecutive year.
“These ratings are indicators of how others perceive our education programs, and are a great testament to the hard work of our faculty to leverage federal funding to change and improve school and social services systems," said Michael Bullis, dean of the College of Education. "More than $28 million was put to work in every single school district in the state of Oregon as a result of the UO College of Education’s research and teaching excellence last year,” said Bullis. UO education faculty research activity represents more than a million dollars per faculty member in the applied measure for annual use of external awards designated for educational research and related activities. Last year's per-faculty awards totaled $711,800. All 50 states, 10 U.S. jurisdictions, and 18 countries worldwide utilize the research and outreach services of UO College of Education faculty.
In Good Company: #5 in the U.S. Top Ten The U.S. News & World Report 2008–9 edition ranks top-tier graduate programs among public and private institutions. Among public education programs in the top ten, the UO program is second, following the University of California–Los Angeles. The top ten public and private programs are

• #1 overall for faculty productivity in funded research per faculty member in the top 50 schools surveyed • #2 among public graduate schools of education nationally • #3 in the nation for its special education program—for 9 years in a row • #5 nationally among all graduate education programs, its highest national ranking ever • The only top-tier ranked college of education in Oregon and the best in the Northwest Highlights of the graduate school rankings are scheduled for publication in the April 7–14 edition of U.S. News & World Report magazine, available for newsstand purchase as of Monday, March 31, with the America's Best Graduate Schools guidebook on sale Tuesday, April 1.
